Training for Laity and Ordained
Our goal for the current quadrennium is to support leadership development for lay and ordained people through seminary or professional training events for people who are upgrading their skills or who are preparing for ministries with Deaf, late-deafened, hard of hearing, and/or deaf-blind people.
We have developed and are able to offer a two-hour workshop and a four-hour workshop covering some of the basics of working with people who have hearing loss or hearing/vision loss. These workshops will be experiential, will be led by persons living with hearing loss or hearing/vision loss, and will focus on issues of the people who are in our ministry area: Deaf, late-deafened, hard of hearing and deaf-blind.
Teams recruited by the UMCom will be available around the country to present these workshops to districts, Annual Conferences, Agencies, Seminaries, Schools of Christian Mission and Local Pastor Schools. Room and board support from the inviting group will be encouraged and appreciated; we have some funds available for the team's transporation to and from your location.
These workshops will be skill-builders for clergy and lay leaders. Find out how to have "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors" and how to provide pastoral care and spiritual direction to people with hearing/vision loss.
To schedule a workshop in your area, contact Rev. Wineva Hankamer, winevah@yahoo.com.
