General Secretary and Treasurer
The World Federation of Deaf Methodist held a business meeting at the Kwanglim Seminar House, Poncheon, South Korea on Tuesday, August 4th. The meeting was represented by two representatives from Methodist-related churches or missions from the following countries: Sri Lanka; Guam, Kenya; USA; Japan; Singapore; Vietnam (1 representive present); and Korea. The business meeting discussed two topics: where to host the next World Methodist Missions Conference of the Deaf; and to elect a President, General Secretary and Treasurer. The meeting was chaired by Rev. Nam of the Korean Methodist Deaf Church. Rev. Nam explained that the President of the WMFD would be the host of the next World Methodist Missions Conference of the Deaf. The office of General Secretary and Treasurer should be combined, and the duties would be to assist the President in hosting the next missions conference.
Two countries offered to host the next mission conference: Kenya and Guam. By a vote of 8 to 6, Kenya was chosen (one ballot was invalid) to be the site of the next World Mission Conference in 2013. Rev. Margaret Mukami of Kenya was then elected President. Rev. Nam nominated Rev. Tom Hudspeth to be the next General Secretary-Treasurer, who was elected by acclamation. The two offices are for a four year term.
