With rising costs and advancing needs, the desire to have "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors" makes funding a vital issue.
The United Methodist Committee for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ministries(DHM), had two basic functions. The Primary function is to make people aware of the needs of the Deaf and hard of hearing in being able to fully participate in the Spiritual Life of the United Methodist Church. A Secondary function to provide funding for programs and projects that further our Primary function. Both of these functions are funded by general funding from the United Methodist Church and by gifts though the United Methodist Church Advance Special Giving.
Advance for Christ and His Church
WHAT IS THE ADVANCE?
The Cross and Flame in the Advance logo is a registered trademark of the United Methodist Church and the tilted vessel calls forth a pouring out, as we share our gifts and as we advance hope in the name of Christ.
The Advance is an official program of The United Methodist Church for voluntary, designated, second-mile giving. Through The Advance, United Methodist annual conferences, districts, local churches, organizations, individuals and families may choose to support particular, approved mission programs or mission personnel with their financial gifts.
The Advance is "designated" giving because it gives donors an opportunity to select specific mission programs or persons. The Advance is "second-mile" giving because, in The United Methodist Church, the first mile (priority) is for local churches to support World Service and other apportioned funds. The Advance was created by the 1948 General Conference of the Methodist Church in response to the suffering and devastation caused by World War II. Today, The Advance program includes partnerships in the United States and in more than 100 countries.

The Advance is not a grant program that guarantees funding. The Advance is a transparent channel that guarantees 100% of each gift will go to the designated partnership.
The Advance Special Giving is an organizational part of Global Ministries that serves as a central collection point for donations to various Programs and Missions. Individuals and local churches can give to ministries with Deaf and hard of hearing people through the "Advance for Ministries with Deaf People" by writing a check to their local United Methodist Church and marked with the Advance # 982562 . The church treasurer will forward it to the Annual Conference Treasurer. From there it goes to the General Board of Global Ministries. Be sure to indicate Advance # 982562 on the memo line. To give by credit card, call 1 888 252-6174.
