Funding
But just as you excel in everything -- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us -- see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
2 Cor 8:7
In this day of shrinking dollar values, but advancing needs, costly technology, and the desire to have "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors", funding becomes a vital issue. Grants and Scholarships are available for ministries with Deaf, Late-deafened, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind people.
These Grants and Scholarships are made possible through the United Methodist Committee on Ministries with Deaf, Late-deafened, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind people (UMCom or "The Committee") by general funding from the United Methodist Church and by gifts though the United Methodist Church Advance Special Giving.
Advance for Christ and His Church
The Advance Special Giving is an organizational part of the General Board of Global Ministries that serves as a central collection point for donations to various Programs and Missions. Individuals and local churches can give to ministries with Deaf, late-deafened, hard of hearing and deaf-blind people through the "Advance for Ministries with Deaf People" by writing a check to their local United Methodist Church and marked with the Advance # 982562 . The church treasurer will forward it to the Annual Conference Treasurer. From there it goes to the General Board of Global Ministries. Be sure to indicate Advance # 982562 on the memo line. To give by credit card, call 1 888 252-6174.
The Committee Grants and Scholarships
The Committee provides opportunities for empowering Deaf, late-deafened, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind people through the Grants for Projects and Scholarships. Projects include seed money for new ministries, international mission outreach, curriculum development, internships, Deaf camps, Deaf-blind camps, communication access and scholarships. See the Guidelines for Grants and Scholarships to determine eligibility.
The Application Forms for both Grants and Scholarships and the Guidelines for each are available by selecting the links on the navigation bar to the left of the Web Page. Requests may be made by fax, email, or surface mail. Forms must be completed and turned in to the Health and Welfare section of the General Board of Global Ministries.
Other Funding Sources
There are also other sources of funding available. Below are listed links to several resources for funding. Also check with your local church, Annual Conference, and Jurisdiction offices for budget funding for your programs. Plan well ahead, as Annual Conferences and Jurisdictions are at least two years ahead in their planning.
